This back garden was in need of a total makeover and on this job I was asked not only what I would do with the lighting but did I have any suggestions on how to create a cool outdoor space for entertaining.

My suggestions were taken into consideration and the client took the whole package of my design onboard which encompassed screening out the neighbours for privacy and creating a green haven building a raised perimeter garden bed using two types of bamboo for height and colour and spear grass down low. We did this as I had the evening/night vista in my mind with two layers of lighting. What I had existing in this space were two substantial trees with great canopies and I knew we could make them into show pieces!

We built a two level beck around them giving usable space for entertainment and eating arrangements and the smaller deck was to have a spa partially set into it without creating massive earth works. I think the results speak for themselves and at night the yard comes to life. As a phase two the clients again contacted me about some greenery on the balcony off the house we planted some Elephant Ears in long troughs and here we built bespoke weatherproof LED strips that are concealed and rest on the dirt uplighting at night. I think they look amazing but you can judge for yourself from the pics. All in all a very moody, private attractive space was the result.
