Client was referred to us to help design her entry lighting and front garden coupled with the construction of a garage. The plans allowed for a suspended walkway beside the garage and into a new front entrance. Beside the walkway there was a set of engineered metal stairs meandering down a terraced garden. The Architect had specified lighting set onto the posts of both walkway and stairs but the cost and difficulty far outweighed the functionality. Truly it was a simple fix as the greenery that was existing (i.e canopy of trees) and the proposed plantings gave us ample opportunity to illuminate by reflecting light which then spilled onto the stairs leading down. The greenery at night looks amazing at the same time. As for the walkway to the house proper we set weather proof strips into the concrete upturned perimeter giving a good light onto the cobbles as the cobbles are a feature which deserve to stand out. Finally we lit some panels of the rendered walls both garage and house with an elegant contemporary outdoor light which creates a beautiful hue of light on said walls making it artistic again reflecting into the spaces beside them.
On a seperate note I specified how all these different layers of lighting were to be controlled on a daily basis and also out of hours as a security function or similarly when coming home late with automated activation to add functionality. Always helps when you’re a licences electrician designing lighting for your clients. The results speaks for themselves and my client is wrapped with her evening vista which she tells me she looks out on every night with a smile. That’s why I love my job!
